New Column: #AskApril About All Your Natural Hair Needs

Last December, Style & Snow spoke with April Williams, founder of A Perfect 1o Hair, to get insight on her journey to start a natural hair products line.

Because of her expertise and upon the opening of her new natural only salon in Syracuse (the only one of its kind!), we have decided to join forces to give readers professional advice on taking care of your natural tresses.

Here’s her introduction:

My name is April.  I am a licensed cosmetologist and the creator of A Perfect 10 Natural Hair Products. I am also the new owner of A Perfect 10 Natural Hair Salon opening in June 2016 (Click here for more information). I learned to braid when I was nine years old, and I have been developing my talents and skills ever since. I started making products in 2012 for my own personal use. I did a lot of research there was some trial and error. I researched essential oils and the needs of different hair types and textures. My goal has always been to focus on the overall health of my hair.

I’m often asked how I started my business. I tell everyone the first thing you have to do is “believe in your brand”. Because if you don’t, your customers won’t either. I created a Facebook page to showcase my hairstyles and as a way of building my clientele. So once I made the decision to sell my products, I advertised on that page (check here to like “A Perfect Hair 10” on Facebook). At the time, I didn’t have a website. I did everything through Facebook. It wasn’t until I began getting requests from potential customers outside of Syracuse that I decided to obtain a domain name and create a website A Perfect 10.

I made the decision to open a Natural Hair Salon because I saw a need for one. Most if my clients are natural, and they all tell me the same thing… “I wish there was a place for us naturals to go without the pressure of straightening or relaxing my hair”. I looked into all the legal regulations required to open a salon in my state first. Then I started looking for the perfect location. The process is exciting and a little scary, but definitely worth it.
