How do I choose a stylist for my natural hair?

The first thing you need to do is Research. Check social media, websites, ask around, talk with people who have previously gotten their hair done by that particular stylist. Make sure all of your questions or concerns are answered. Clients with natural hair have to be cautious when booking with salons. Because natural hair isn’t something that is taught, it is your job to ensure that your stylist knows how to work with your texture.

Schedule a Consultation. This gives you a chance to meet your stylist, as well as visit the salon. It also gives the stylist a chance to see your hairs unique texture. Stay away from stylists who claim to specialize in natural hair but only specialize in straightening natural hair; even if you’re interested in getting your hair straightened. Listen to the terms used by the stylist. Things like “heat training” should have you running for the nearest exit. Ask about products, as well as techniques used for styling. While you are there ask any question that you feel are relevant. You may even take a list of questions with you. No matter who you decide is the best choice to style your hair, make sure the overall health of your hair is their top priority. You should go into your appointment confident and leave satisfied.
